Have you ever had one of those “stop the world – I want to get off” days? I know lots of people who have them on a semi-regular basis – particularly if you’re trying to juggle everything all at once! Don’t you find that you try to do it all and end up not getting anything done? Frustrating isn’t it!
How do you cope when you’re having one of those days?
The best way to cope is to actually PLAN your day! I know, pretty amazing right?
Picture this: You’ve turned on your computer and found half a dozen emails demanding your attention RIGHT NOW and the list of things you should’ve finished yesterday is staring you in the face. You start to panic and before you know it, it’s 4:00pm and you’ve got half of everything done and nothing at all finished and the only thing you’ve achieved is a headache and a longer list that you’re going to have to face tomorrow! Sound familiar?
What about doing this instead?
What if at the start of the day, you take 10 minutes to carefully check every email and the list of tasks left over from the day before and make some structured and thoughtful decisions on what to tackle first and what can wait.
Phew – I don’t know about you, but I feel better already!
Don’t forget when you’re planning your day to make a reasonable assessment of what interruptions you can expect – phone calls, emails, Facebook – let’s get real, you KNOW you’re going to check them! – and plan accordingly.
Allowing time for those interruptions means that you can accurately assess how much you will achieve during the day… and you will get everything done in a timely manner and end up at the end of the day with a satisfied feeling instead of a headache!
Until next time,
